Requesting a Northeastern University Sponsored Account

Updated 2/7/07

To meet the electronic access requirements of individuals who have temporary or variable associations with the University and in compliance with regulatory responsibilities around taking appropriate steps to safeguard information, the University offers a Sponsored Account Service. This service provides workstation access and "neu.edu" e-mail access to visiting professors, lecturers, contractors, consultants and related roles.

New feature for 2007: Full Social Security Number no longer required.
For your protection, the Sponsored Account application form now collects only the last four digits of the Social Security Number (SSN). Students applying for a sponsored account must supply their full NUID number.

Additional features:

• Customized renewal interval for contractors/consultants
Contractors and consultants can now be sponsored for the documented duration of their contracts, thereby reducing the need for frequent renewals.

• NUNET account now included with all sponsored accounts
With a NUNET account, sponsored accountholders will be able to use eBar and CyberCafe workstations, where login has been required since July 18, 2006.

Essential points about Sponsored Account service

• Sponsored Accounts may be used only for the conduct of official University business.

• Only full-time benefits-eligible directors, faculty members, department heads, managers and hiring supervisors may approve Sponsored Account forms.

• In order to renew sponsored accounts, sponsors must continue to be associated with the University as of the day they renew an account.

• Two weeks before expiration of a sponsored account, both the sponsor and sponsoree are notified by email. In the e-mail, instructions are provided for account renewal that can be accomplished with a simple e-mail reply.

• Sponsored individuals are responsible for the data created under their account, and must work with their sponsors to preserve any data created under their accounts prior to the account expiration date.

• Sponsored accounts and e-mail content are deleted on the day after the account expiration date.
